The Penal Sanctions Enforcement Administration has procured 5,000 vaccines against seasonal influenza (flu) for employees and convicts in all penal correctional institutions (PCIs) as an additional preventive measure during the COVID-19 pandemic. The distribution of vaccines is in progress, and the vaccination itself will take place in compliance with all preventive measures taken against the COVID-19 spread. Although the presence of flu in Serbia has not been confirmed by lab tests yet, the Administration obtained the vaccines to ensure timely prevention of the occurrence of the disease and medical complications it may cause.

Although no cases of coronavirus infection were recorded among convicts between April and November 2020, due to the worsening of the epidemiological situation in the country, the Administration procured 12,000 antigen tests in time to respond to the challenge posed by daily admissions of new inmates who might import the coronavirus.

Currently, the presence of the coronavirus has been confirmed in one percent of 10,513 persons currently deprived of liberty. Most of them display mild symptoms, and their health status is monitored 24/7. Up to 400 persons are tested in PCIs every day. There have not been any new cases of infection among convicts and detainees in the past ten days.
