“The Ministry of Justice pays particular attention to improving the infrastructural capacities of judicial bodies to increase the efficiency of their work and accelerate proceedings, to provide citizens with good quality and equal access to justice regardless of whether they are located in the centre of Belgrade, a peripheral municipality or any other part of Serbia”, noted Minister of Justice Nela Kuburović during her visit to the reconstructed judicial building in Lazarevac.

She noted that the court buildings in Kraljevo and Prijepolje have been reconstructed during the previous year, that two completely new buildings have been opened in Užice and Požarevac, and the opening of a new Misdemeanour Court in Pančevo is also expected soon. The Minister added that the project of building the Palace of Justice in Kraguejvac will also be started this year.

Kuburović stated that the judicial building in Lazarevac, housing the Basic and Misdemeanour Court, as well as the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office, did not undergo almost any type of renewal work since its construction in 1968.

She thanked the municipality of Lazarevac for financing the construction of the additional two floors, enabling the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office and Misdemeanour Court to receive adequate working premises, housed in the same building. She added that the Ministry of Justice used budget funds for additional development, reconstruction and adaptation of the building, thus increasing the total surface area by around 400 square metres, now amounting to 1,800 square metres.

The visit to the reconstructed building in Lazarevac was also attended by the President of the Basic Court Ljubivoje Kovačević, Public Prosecutor Milorad Gajić, President of the Misdemeanour Court Milica Živojinović, as well as the President of the Municipality of Lazarevac Bojan Sinđelić.

The managers of the judicial bodies thanked the Ministry of Justice and the local self-administration for the investments, providing them with significantly better working conditions for their staff, leading to greater efficiency in their work.

“The working conditions for all three judicial bodies have been improved, for the first time ever each deputy prosecutor has their own office, and we have a separate office for implementing investigations. All of this will contribute to improving our work”, noted the public prosecutor.
