Justice Minister Nela Kuburović received Prosecutor-General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika today. In the meeting, she highlighted what an excellent justice sector cooperation the two countries had had, adding that Serbia and Russia traditionally enjoyed good and friendly relations.

The interlocutors concurred that cooperation between Serbia’s Public Prosecutor’s Office and Russia’s Office of the Prosecutor-General had been exceptional and intensive; cooperation which was now being formalised with the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation as part of the latter’s delegation visit to Serbia. They noted that the Memorandum was the second of many agreements signed under the umbrella of the earlier Memorandum of Cooperation between the two countries’ prosecution services signed in 2012. It was also said in the meeting that professionals and experts from both countries’ public prosecution services needed to continue the intensive cooperation in order to share experiences and new skills.

Minister Kuburović said she found the cooperation between two countries’ Ministries of Justice excellent, acknowledging the great honour and hospitality shown to the Serbian delegation in May this year visiting St. Petersburg to take part in the International Legal Forum. She said she hoped that Russia’s Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov, too, would visit Serbia soon.

The Prosecutor-General of the Russian Federation stated that justice sector cooperation between Serbia and Russia was broader than defined in the signed agreements, emphasising that the relations between the two countries were based on constructive actions and did not depend on bureaucracy. Chaika added that everyone in the Office of the Prosecutor-General was interested in sharing experiences with their Serbian colleagues with whom they had a high level of understanding.

In conclusion, Minister Kuburović thanked Russia for demonstrating its support to Serbia in the United Nations Security Council sessions.

Serbia’s Republic Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac and Organised Crime Prosecutor Mladen Nenadić also attended the meeting.
