“Future cooperation between the EU Commissioner DG for Justice and the Ministry of Justice will be at a much higher level so to speed up the preparations for the opening of Chapter 23”, stated Minister of Justice Nikola Selaković after today’s meeting in Brussels with the European Commissioner for Justice Vera Jourova.

Selaković emphasised that the meeting with Commissioner Jourova was a friendly and an open one. He explained that the main topics of the meeting were the drafting of the Chapter 23 Action Plan and the challenges the Ministry of Justice was facing during this drafting process.

Speaking about the Action Plan drafting process, Selaković stressed that the following week would be when the Ministry would complete all activities the EC had recommended after reviewing the second draft of the Action Plan.

“Chapter 23 Action Plan has also been the subject of analysis by relevant parliamentary committees, specifically the Parliamentary Committee for Justice, Public Administration and Local Government, the Parliamentary Committee on Human and Minority Rights and the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration”, said Selaković. Moreover, he stated that the Ministry would also consult the National Covenant about the Action Plan, the National Covenant being a body gathering several hundred non-governmental organisations.

During his visit to Brussels, Minister Selaković also met with the European Parliament Rapporteur on Serbia David McAllister and the Director for Western Balkans in DG for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Jean-Eric Paquet, discussing the Ministry’s activities and plans for the European integration process.
