“The Ministry of Justice will begin in Užice in 2015 the construction of the new building of the Commercial and the Minor Offence Courts”, said today the Minister of Justice, Mr. Nikola Selaković, on the occasion of signing the Contract, with which the Directorate for Property of the Republic of Serbia handed over for use to the Ministry of Justice the land on which the mentioned facility will be built.

Minister Selaković  emphasised that the new building, according to design, will have a surface area of 2,500 square meters, and that for the demolition of the current building, the preparation of the terrain and construction of the new building, USD 125 million will be invested; he also added that the funds have been provided form the Budget of the Republic of Serbia.

Minister Selaković also emphasized that this investment will contribute to the improvement of the work of the judiciary in Užice, and primarily the Minor Offence and Commercial Courts, which have achieved good results regardless of inadequate accommodation capacities. Furthermore, he added that by moving these two courts the issues concerning the accommodation capacities of the Basic and and Higher Public Prosecutor’s Offices will be solved, since they will get a far better work environment. “The main goal of the construction of the new building, beside providing an adequate accommodation for judges and administrative workers, is fulfilling the needs for achieving justice of all citizens of the City of Užice and the neighbouring municipalities“, said Minister Selaković and added that success of a city is measured by the level of satisfaction of its citizens.

Speaking about the work of the judiciary, Minister Selaković pointed out to the fact that the citizens are currently not satisfied with the work of judiciary and access to justice, and that there are multiple reasons for dissatisfaction. He emphasised that the main role of the Ministry of Justice is to create conditions for speedier, unhindered and quality work of the employees in the judiciary, and ensure conditions for quicker and more fair access to justice. “The Ministry of Justice in 2015, beside Užice, will begin the construction of new Minor Offence Courts in Raška, Pančevo and Požarevac“, said Minister Selaković and added that works on adaptation and renovation of judiciary institutions in Belgrade will be continued as well.

The Director of the Directorate for Property of the Republic of Serbia. Mr. Jovan Vorkapić, emphasized that the judges and court rooms reflect the dignity of a country, and expressed pleasure that this investment will ensure better conditions for citizens in search of justice, but also for the work of judges.

The Mayor of the City of Užice, Mr. Tihomir Petković, said that the construction of the new building of the Minor Offence and Commercial Courts is of utmost importance for the city, thus confirming the Užice regional dimension.
