“The recovery of economy is one of key priorities  of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The main pre-condition for the implementation of this priority is providing better business environment for the investors, thus enabling a clear picture of potential outcome of future investments, not only from the economic, but also legal aspect”, stated today the Minister of Justice Nikola Selaković at the opening of the 6th Conference of European and Mediterranean Lawyers: “Justice and Economic Growth“, held on September 25 - 26, 2014 at the Belgrade Faculty of Law.

Selaković highlighted that the actions of the Ministry of Justice are mainly oriented toward achieving goals and objectives defined in the National Judicial Reform Strategy for the period 2013-2018 and the  National Anti-Corruption Strategy for the same period.

“The goal of the Ministry is to facilitate the ease and effectiveness of doing business to investors through speedier, more simple and safer procedures, issuance of documents; possibility of simple and reliable extrajudicial settlement of disputes; efficient completion of court proceedings and enforcement of court decisions as the result of such proceedings; and the fight for zero tolerance against corruption and its eradication at the all mentioned levels“, emphasized Selaković.

In his speech, when tackling the manner of achieving the mentioned goals, the Minister emphasized the importance of establishment of the public notary system and the beginning of work of public notaries, who are obliged to guarantee the accuracy and authenticity of the issued documents, and to ensure conclusion of sale/purchase agreements and other legal transactions in business environment, without any risk whatsoever for the legal entity to which services are provided, which also raises the level of legal certainty. Furthermore, Selaković emphasized the importance of the recently adopted Law on Mediation. “Settling disputes through mediation is of utmost importance, not only for the parties in a dispute, but also from the aspect of the state, particularly bearing in mind the key novelty brought by this law that the agreement reached in dispute settlement may have effect of an enforceable document, emphasized Selaković.

Pointing to the importance of legal predictability and certainty, Minister said that it shall be reached through in-depth reform of procedural legislation, greater responsibility of the holders of judicial offices, unification of case law, but also by increasing successful execution of court decisions.

“The Ministry of Justice is working intensely to strengthen an independent, quality, professionally responsible and efficient judicial system, in order to make Serbia one of the most desirable destinations both for foreign and domestic companies”, at the end of the speech concluded Minister Selaković.
