State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice Biljana Pavlović and Assistant Ministers of Justice Čedomir Backović  and Nela Kuburović met today with representatives of the Venice Commission and discussed draft laws on amendments to the Law on High Judiciary Council (HJC) and  Law on State Prosecutorial Council (SPC).

The main topics of the meeting included improved transparency of HJC and SPC and development of mechanism for accountability  of members of these bodies.

Representatives of the Ministry of Justice highlighted the importance of amendments to the laws on  HJC and SPC since they represent a major step forward in implementation of the 2013-2018 National Strategy for Judiciary Reform, with the main focus on promoting autonomy, accountability and efficiency of the Serbian judiciary system.

Opinion of the Venice Commission will provide an important point of reference and support to the continuation of successful reforms of the Serbian judiciary.
