Today, Minister of Justice Nikola Selaković  had a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Serbia, Mr Gordan Markotić, and discussed improvement of judicial cooperation between two countries as well as the course of Serbian negotiations with the EU.

Minister Selaković and ambassador Markotić agreed that cooperation between Croatia and Serbia in the area of judiciary needs to be elevated on a higher level, and that direct communication between judiciary institutions of two countries should be established.

Ambassador Markotić said that Croatia, like Serbia, had faced similar issues in the area of judiciary, both before and during  the negotiations, and that the greatest benefit of accession to the EU was the very process of reform that took place on the road to official membership, i.e. before the member state status was acquired.

Referring to cooperation and sharing the experiences relating to Chapter 23, Ambassador Markotić highlighted that Croatia could share its negotiating experiences and provide expert support to Serbia, particularly taking into account the fact that it had recently joined the EU.

Pointing out the importance of such cooperation between Croatia and Serbia,  Minister Selaković recognized numerous good Croatian solutions that Serbia should take over or learn from them how to regulate its judiciary system.
