Pursuant to the Public Notary Law, and upon advice of the Ministry Panel that conducted  the competition for appointment of the first public notaries in Serbia, I have today appointed the first 94 public notaries for the territories of 37 basic courts, said the Minister of Justice Nikola Selaković after signing  the decisions on appointments of the first public notaries in the Republic of Serbia

Selaković  expressed his great satisfaction with the fact that appointment of public notaries was accomplished today for the first time after 1930 when initial attempt was made to introduce the public notary system in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

Selaković also stressed that 178 candidates applied for the first announcement of vacancies for appointment of public notaries, out of whom 103 applied for posts in Belgrade. He also added that in five municipalities in which the vacancies were announced (Gornji Milanovac, Vrbas, Aranđelovac, Kikinda and Požega) no candidates applied.

„This is not the final number of public notaries to work in Serbia; close to 350 posts are planned, since it is mandatory that each municipality has at least one public notary”, reminded the Minister and added that the Law stipulates one public notary per the population of 25.000.

Introduction of the public notary system into the Serbian judiciary will relieve the burden off the courts, promote their more efficient operation, improve the climate for investment, upgrade the legal certainty and  advance the access to justice for all Serbian citizens.
