The Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the French Foundation for Continental Law and the High Council of French Notariat, organised a two-day workshop for the training of future notaries public in the Parliamentary Caucus in Belgrade.

The training for future notaries public was attended by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice Biljana Pavlović and the training was held by Stefan Zečević, who is responsible for cooperation with the Republic of Serbia on behalf of the French Foundation for Continental Law, and the notary public from Marseilles Dominique Savoure.

The main topics of today’s workshop were the role of impartial notariat public and the tariffs that the future notaries public will have to abide by, while at tomorrow’s workshop the participants will be informed about the principles of public notary ethics, and about legal certainty and the duty to instruct the party they represent.

The notary public from Marseille Dominique Savoure stressed that notaries public should be impartial arbiters in the contracts they draw up, so as to represent the interests of both sides and thus lead them to reconcile.

“Some of the principles that an impartial notary public should abide by include the following: fully apply regulations relating to the public notary profession, always objectively reflect on and formulate often conflicting interests of the parties, reject unlawful wishes of  the parties, and ensure that the contract concluded with the parties provides a level playing field, guided by the principle of equitable contractual relations”, Savoure said.

Notaries public will commence their work in Serbia on 1 September 2014.
